Bowman played five seasons in the majors, from 1955-59, all with the Philadelphia Phillies. Never and every-day player, Bowman had two seasons where he came close to playing in 100 games. He hit .288 with eight home runs and 24 RBI in 91 games for the Phillies in 1958. Known for having a strong arm, Bowman tried pitching in 1959. He appeared in five games for Philadelphia with his only decision being a loss.
I received this letter from Bowman fairly recently, within the last couple months for sure. So I was surprised and a little sad to see that he passed away on January 27 of this year at his home in San Jose. If you are interested, here is a link to his obituary.
