Five sent off today. Ernie Broglio, Barry Latman, Willie Kirkland, Solly Drake and Joe Shipley. Latman is an interesting guy as he is one of the most successful Jewish American pitchers of all time. In fact, he is sixth in career strikeouts (829) and eighth in both games pitched (344) and wins (59). I’ll give you one guess who ranks first in those categories…
You guessed Koufax didn’t you? Well, I hate to say it, but you’re wrong … sort of. Ken Holtzman actually holds the record for most wins by a Jewish pitcher with 174. Koufax however is the all-time leader in strikeouts with 2,396. I am guessing you may never have guessed the career leader in games. It’s Scott Schoeneweis who pitched in 562 games for seven teams from 1999-2010.
