Kelly spent parts of four seasons in the big leagues. He came up with the Chicago Cubs in 1951 and pitched in 108 games for the team over the next three years. He was traded to Cincinnati in 1953 and ended up spending the next four seasons pitching in the Reds’ farm system. Kelly had a big-league encore with the Reds and Cleveland Indians in 1958. He appeared in 15 games for the two teams and retired following the season. Kelly finished with a 12-18 record, a 4.50 ERA and two saves in 123 big league games.
