
A veteran of 18 big league seasons, Jackson’s career stretched from 1965-1982. In between, he won 86 games and saved 79 more while pitching for six different clubs. He was an all star in 1969 when he won 14 games for the Philadelphia Phillies. He also lost 18 games that season for a Phillies team that finished 63-99. He pitched 253 innings and struck out 180 hitters, both were by far his career highs. Jackson joined the Baltimore Orioles in 1971, moving into the bullpen in the process. He was a key member of the 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates World Championship team, going 8-5 with 14 saves. As he notes on his survey, Jackson earned the win in the decisive game seven.
