Ray Washburn

1968 Topps

Washburn went 72-64 in 10 seasons pitching in the majors. A member of two World Series winning teams, Washburn’s best year came in 1968 when he went 14-8 with a 2.26 ERA for the Cardinals, helping them get back to the series in the process. Washburn earned his lone World Series win that year, beating the Detroit Tigers in Game 3. St. Louis, however, lost the series in seven games.


As he notes on his questionnaire, Washburn no hit the San Francisco Giants on September 18, 1968 at Candlestick Park. He struck out eight in the game and walked five.
