From 1977-1979 Thormodsgard pitched in 50 big-league games for the Minnesota Twins, going 12-21 with a 4.74 ERA. He made 37 starts for the Twins in his rookie season, winning 11 and pitching his lone career shutout. In 218 innings he struck out 94 hitters. His ERA was 4.62. Thormodsgard would only appear in 13 more games. He was 1-6 with a 5.05 ERA in 1978 and pitched in just one game for the Twins in 1979. He worked in the minors in 1980, which was his final year in pro ball.
On July 4, 1977, Thormodsgard pitched a five-hit shutout against the Brewers in Milwaukee. He struck out three and walked two, pushing his season record to 6-4. Mike Cubbage hit a three-run home run to lead the Twins’ offense.
