
Welch played in one game for the Detroit Tigers in 1945. He had two at bats but no hits while spending four innings catching. His professional career lasted a bit longer, as he played in the minors from 1943-1947. He twice appeared in 129 games in the minors, first in 1944 and again in 1946.
Welch is currently one of the 100-oldest-living ballplayers. He is also the oldest person to have played in just one MLB game.
