
Between 1977 and 1987, Thomas pitched in 182 major league games, going 20-11 with seven saves and a 3.82 ERA. He enjoyed a cup of coffee with the Houston Astros in 1977, then pitched in parts of three seasons for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1978-1980. After spending the next two seasons in the minors, Thomas set a career high in games pitched while playing for the Seattle Mariners in 1983. He appeared in 43 games that season, going 3-1 and finishing 12 games. His best season came in 1985 when he went 7-0 for the Mariners with a 3.36 ERA. However, an injury kept him from playing in 1986 and he was ineffective the following year which would be his last in the majors.
