
Kinney pitched in parts of five seasons for four different teams between 1978-1982. In 97 games he posted a 4-9 record with a 4.55 ERA and six saves. His best year came for the San Diego Padres in 1980 when he went 4-6 in 50 games with a 4.25 ERA. Kinney also pitched for the Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers and Oakland A’s. His professional career stretched from 1970-1982.
Kinney’s impressive relief performance against the Phillies ended with a loss as Bake McBride tripled in the bottom of the 17th inning to score Mike Schmidt. Kinney gave up 11 hits and two runs in his 9 and 1/3 innings of work.
