Bob Shirley

1981 Fleer

Shirley went 67-94 with a 3.82 ERA over 11 seasons in the majors. He came up in 1977 with the San Diego Padres and won 12 games, which would be his career high. He won 11 games and had seven saves for San Diego in 1980 in what was arguably his best year. He made stops in St. Louis and Cincinnati before finding his way to the New York Yankees in 1983. Shirley served as an effective arm in the New York bullpen for almost five seasons. The Yankees released him in June of 1987 and he caught on with the Kansas City Royals for three games before the team released him. Shirley spent 1988 in Triple A and retired following the season.
