Dan Petry

1983 Donruss

An all star in 1985, Petry won 125 games in a 13-year career that lasted from 1979-1991 and saw him pitch for four different teams. His best years came for the Detroit Tigers in the early to mid 1980’s. Petry won at least 10 games every year for Detroit from 1980-1985. He was a 19-game winner for the Tigers in 1983 and led the American League in games started (38). He had, arguably, his best season in 1984, going 18-8 with a 3.24 ERA and a career-high 144 strikeouts. Petry eventually ended up with the California Angels, but returned to Detroit to win 10 games in 1990. He pitched for three different teams (the Tigers, Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox) in 1991 before retiring.

Petry was a key member of the 1984 Tigers team that defeated the San Diego Padres in the World Series. He won 18 games in the regular season, then made a start in the ALCS against the Kansas City Royals and two starts in the World Series.
