
Kobel pitched in 115 games for the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets between 1973-1980, posting an 18-34 record with a 3.88 ERA. He broke in as a 19-year old for the Brewers but appeared in just two games. In 1974 he won six games, but lost 14 more, while making 24 starts for Milwaukee. His best season came for the Mets in 1979 when he started 27 games and finished 6-8 with a 3.51 ERA.
Kobel’s first start came on September 28, 1973 at Fenway Park in Boston. He pitched six and 1/3 innings and gave up four runs, taking the loss in a 5-3 Red Sox win.
